Our work

This section outlines the UK Border Agency's objectives, our work, the targets we are working to and our aspirations in relation to the services and standards we aim to offer our customers.

The UK Border Agency plays a key role in delivering the Government's commitment to protect the public - a single organisation with a local presence and a global reach, dedicated to strengthening our border and to controlling migration.

The purpose of the UK Border Agency is to secure our border and control migration of our country. We have a workforce of 24,500 working in 135 countries and in every part of the United Kingdom, and a budget of more than £2 billion.

Since our launch, we have firmly established ourselves as one of the largest law enforcement agencies in the United Kingdom. Targeting those who represent the greatest harm is our overriding priority. In our intelligence gathering, enforcement, anti-smuggling, countering terrorism and protecting tax revenue work, we target the areas of highest risk while complying with the European Union's (EU) legislative requirements for performance of control of imports and exports crossing the EU border.

Our business plan outlines our objectives, the work we do and the targets we are working to.

Our customer strategy sets out our aspirations in relation to the services and standards we aim to offer our customers.

The UK Border Agency Framework Agreement governs our relationship with the Home Office. For more information, see the section on Our organisation.
