This page explains how you can submit evidence to the Migration Advisory Committee (MAC).
Evidence submitted by stakeholders is an important element of the MAC's evidence base. Stakeholders are therefore encouraged to contact the MAC with evidence if they believe that an occupation should be added to the shortage occupation list.
The MAC will review the shortage occupation list regularly.
Please organise your evidence as follows:
1. Give details of your name, address, contact details and organisation details where applicable.
2. If you are submitting evidence about whether jobs or occupations should be included on the shortage occupation lists, please specify occupation and job titles according to the SOC2000 (see below).
3. Consider whether the occupation or job satisfies each of the MAC's criteria in relation to 'skilled', 'shortage' and 'sensible', as outlined in its September 2008 report. If it does, please provide supporting evidence.
We have produced a simple guide to submitting evidence to the MAC, which you can download from the right side of this page.
The MAC classifies occupations according to the Standard Occupational Classification 2000 (SOC2000).
For a list and description of occupations at the one- to four-digit level, see Volume 1 of the SOC2000. This sets out the SOC2000's structure and describes the unit groups.
For a complete list of job titles, see the coding index in Volume 2 of the SOC2000.
Both volumes can be downloaded from the Office for National Statistics website.
