European Refugee Fund Phase III - list of co-funded projects 2008

Details of successful projects selected for funding under the European Refugee Fund 2008-2013 are provided below. The amount of funding quoted relates to the maximum awarded for 2008.

Project Name: ARRIVE
What it does: Supporting refugee healthcare professionals with work placements in NHS as well as awareness raising and proactive and specialist career coaching and advice service. This project will also enable Refugee Integration and Employment Service caseworkers to refer relevant clients.

Organisation: Northern Refugee Centre
Project Name: The Route
What it does: The project will support refugees in Yorkshire and Humberside through a consortium, but with delivery from grass roots organisations by assisting in vocational training and acquisition of recognised qualifications/diplomas.

Organisation: HACT (Housing Associations' Charitable Trust)
Project Name: Refugee Community Housing and Employment Project
What it does: The project will support refugees by providing introductory and advanced training and work placement and stimulating partnerships between local Refugee Integration and Employment Service, Housing Associations, Local Authorities and Refugee Community Organisations.

Project Name: Refugee Accelerator
What it does: The project will support refugees United Kingdom wide with financial awards and training to pilot social entrepreneur projects in the community and provide further assistance to refugees who wish to expand their enterprise.

Organisation: Peacemakers
Project Name: Refugee Integration Initiatives
What it does: The project will support refugees including Children and Young People and Unaccompanied minors in Manchester through Intercommunity mentoring projects, volunteering opportunities and co-facilitation of sessions aimed at challenging prejudice.

Organisation: Council for Assisting Refugee Academics (CARA)
Project Name: Refugee Academics Into Employment
What it does: The project will support refugee academics in London through the provision of specific information and guidance and by providing grants to add to their existing skills with relevant qualifications. This project also focuses on women refugee academics.

Project Name: Refugees Into Employment (RITE) in London
What it does: RITE will support refugees in general employment through information, advice and guidance, assessment and training.

Organisation: West London Partnership: Refugees into Teaching
Project Name: London Guidance and Support Service
What it does: The project will support refugee teachers by providing Information, advice and guidance to refugee overseas trained teachers/support roles as well as support to assist refugees in gaining qualified teacher status.

Project Name: Refugee Training and Employment Service
What it does: Refugees will be supported to acquire Scottish VQ Level 2 health and social care and work placements and through targeted work placements for refugees in 11 social care projects and partner agencies, part time employment in social care projects run by the Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) and awareness raising activities regarding refugee skills/abilities across social care sector

Project Name: JET Shop Refugee Project Refugees
What it does: Refugees will be supported into full time employment through general information, advice and guidance provision, training support and work placements including a specific focus on women.

Organisation: Ethnic Minority Achievement Service (EMAS) (formerly Service for English as an Additional Language (SEAL))
Project Name: Access and Participation for secondary Refugee pupils
What it does: 15 refugee children (13-19) in Brighton and Hove will benefit from provision of individualised access and participation programmes for vulnerable refugees at secondary school.

Project Name: STRIVE Development and Dissemination
What it does: Supporting refugees in North West London in vocational training/qualifications, soft skills development training programme, and delivery of workshops and modules on employment training, job preparation training and interpersonal skills

Organisation: Peterborough African Community Organisation (PACO)
Project Name: Improving Social Cohesion and Community Capacity through Community Radio
What it does: 90 refugees will benefit from NCFE (a leading provider of nationally recognised qualifications) accredited broadcasting qualifications and experience through participating in a Peterborough internet-based radio station streaming through web throughout the United Kingdom.

Organisation: British Red Cross
Project Name: New Voices
What it does: Refugees based in Glasgow will benefit from direct involvement in the production of a quarterly newspaper which aims to increase engagement between refugees and the local/host community. Refugee participants will also pursue a journalism qualification.
