This section explains our planned policy for the ministers of religion category within Tier 2 - skilled worker of our points-based system. The information is based on our statement of intent published on 6 May 2008. The information in this section will be updated as we continue to develop the policy over the next few months.
The information in this section relates to the eligibility requirements and application process for the ministers of religion sub-category of Tier 2. If you want to apply under the sports people sub-category or the main Tier 2 - skilled workers arrangements, you should see the relevant section for more information.
This section explains how you to come to the United Kingdom as a religious worker with recognised religions. This includes anyone who preaches to their community and/or performs a pastoral role. Tier 5 will cover ministers of religion coming to the United Kingdom on a temporary basis as a religious worker in a non-pastoral role, where duties include performing religious rites, but not preaching to a congregation.
This category will replace the existing arrangements for ministers of religion and missionaries.
If you would like to enter the United Kingdom under this category you will need to obtain entry clearance and show that you have scored enough points to qualify, see Eligibility section.
Applications for entry clearance must be made from outside the United Kingdom. You should make your application at the British diplomatic post in the country in which you are ordinarily resident in. Applications for entry clearance are processed by our visa services team. Our visa services website will provide more information on the application process when Tier 2 is introduced in autumn 2008.
