Electronic forms

This page explains what the e-forms package is and how it can be used to make a work permit application.

The e-forms package enables registered users to submit work permit applications by email, rather than having to submit the completed application form by post.

The e-forms package can only be used for applications for under one of the following work permit categories:

  • business and commercial;
  • sportspeople and entertainers; or
  • training and work experience.

If you are making any other application you must make your application by post. All our postal application forms are available from the pages on applying for and extending a work permit.

In order to be able to use the e-forms package you will need to download and install the e-forms software and applications to your computer. The instructions below take you through the installation process.

Before you download anything on to your computer, you should read the e-forms user guide (PDF 879K opens in new window).

The user guide contains a step-by-step guide to the installation process. It is recommended that you consult the user guide before contacting the UK Border Agency regarding any difficulties you may experience.

Installation of form filler programme

The first stage in the installation process is to download and install the form filler programme that you will use to complete the work permit application form.

Both the programme and the forms are installed using Microsoft installation packages. If you have trouble downloading the programme or the forms, you may not have the correct version of Microsoft Installer on your computer. If you do not have the correct version of the Microsoft installer programme on your computer, a link to the programmes to install it is provided below. Please read the user guide for details.

All the e-forms available from this website require version 7.0 of the form filler to work. If you have used the form filler in the past, you should make sure you have version 7.0 of the form filler installed on your computer.

Once the form filler programme has been installed on your computer you can download and install the registration and application forms.

Making your application

The user guide gives full details of registering, completing and submitting application forms. Please download and read the guide before using the e forms system.

The application forms available from this page can only be used if you are submitted your application by email. If you are making your application by post you must use the postal version of the application form.

You should not send credit or debit card information to the UK Border Agency except on the wp-pay e-form.

If you wish to use the e-forms package to make a work permit application, you must read the relevant guidance for employers. This guidance can be downloaded from the right side of this page.

You should attach your application to a wp-pay form and then send that wp-pay form, and only that form, to the UK Border Agency as an attachment to an e-mail. It is not necessary to send the application form separately. Applications not attached to a wp-pay form cannot be processed.
